The current Shoal accreditation period lasts four years for most schools.  The accreditation period adds more time for schools to identify, implement, and evaluate improvement activities; Shoal is with you throughout the period.

Schools that are new to Shoal get acquainted with us and our accreditation process. Candidate schools engage in the three main phases of accreditation: Self-Assessment, Evaluation, and Approval.

A core part to accreditation is the Self-Evaluation Review which is an in-depth analysis of your school that uses your own data and expert analysis to identify good practice and next steps for development.

  • Initial contact & Self-Evaluation

    We work with you and your team to gather the self-evaluation evidence that shows your school as it is now. Simply complete the Shoal application form and our journey begins together.

  • Shoal Review & Assessment

    Your team at Shoal reviews your application & data, then analyzes all information against the Shoal International Standards.

  • School Visit & Inspection

    We agree with you the terms of our visit to ensure harmonious partnership. During our visit we identify strengths, and make our recommendations how to use your strengths to improve, discussing the conclusions with you.

  • Accreditation - Accession or Complete

    Shoal’s board reviews the findings of the data collection process and the school visit which confirms your school is following the international standards and Accession or Complete accreditation is awarded.

Shoal accreditation is a four-phase approach that works at your speed and in partnership with you.

Starting with the initial application we work with you to complete self-evaluation activity and gather the right information so that efficiency is achieved.

This is followed by a review and recommendations made. We then plan and deliver the inspection which covers a range of school areas. These are based upon internationally recognised aspects of school activities and are reflected in UK governmental inspection systems.

Finally, we carry out a comprehensive inspection based upon two phases namely ‘Accession Accreditation’ and ‘Complete Accreditation’.
